The Langtang Valley is just a hop, step and jump [19 miles] north of Kathmandu, and borders Tibet, just below the main crown of the Himalaya. The valley stands protectively nestled in the laps of the Langtang Lirung at (7246m), the tallest peak in the Langtang region. This venture would be ideal for fit greenhorns who seek to be introduced to the wilderness of the Himalayas…and go on to become legends – in their own right. Hiking up to Yala peak also comes with its optional climbs of Yala Peak [5732m] and Naya Kanga [5844m] offers a wonderful introduction to mountaineering in the Himalaya, among some of the most amazing scenery seen in the whole of Nepal.
The ‘Yala Peak Combo with the Spiritual Touch’ is a trek/climb that includes Gosaikunda and Helambu, three prime trek zones that lie north of Kathmandu. Naya Kanga peak stands as an option for those who wish to go the mile and can be added to this adventure. This trip takes us to Yala Peak at (5732m), one of the lowest trekking peaks in Nepal. However, this does not make the climb a cakewalk. The walk up is relatively simple and non-technical, but the physical challenges are there as with all Himalayan peaks. On summit, we get real close-up views of Shishapangma (8046m) and Gangchempo (6388m). On our way down, we discover the splendid holy Gosainkunda Lake, a revered pilgrimage site and hike the far-flung trails of the Helambu region of Langtang. The journey displays before us fantastic sights of Lantang Lirung, Lenpo Gang and Dorje Lakpa. From this point, we get to see right into Tibet. Trekking in the region is a baffling surprise to many backpackers who wonder at the close proximity of this lovely region ever so close to the bustling and hustling ancient valley of Kathmandu. Climbing Yala Peak is the perfect introduction for first timers who seek to get blooded with Nepal’s gripping wilderness.

Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu
It is fantastic flying into Kathmandu on a day with clear blue skies. The views of snow-capped mountain peaks spread down below you are almost rapturous, and begins a whole sequence of memorable experiences that stay with you for a real long time.
An escort from our office will meet you at the airport and reach you to your hotel. Our representative will help you check into your designated hotel. At the hotel you will be oriented about your daily activities. This is your first overnight in the valley of temples and footloose and fancy free cows, probably the most in the world - Breakfast
Day 2: Free at your own leisure
After your first night in Kathmandu, you will be well informed on arrival about what to do in your next free day.
The choice is yours: either you can stroll around the nearby market on your own or you can opt for a half/full day guided sightseeing tour in Kathmandu at places of interest. The cost for this extra tour is not added in the trek cost and you have to pay extra depending on the places you choose to visit. This extra tour gives you deep insights into Nepal’s iconic monuments that have been recognized by UNESCO as world heritage sites. Sansui Treks will give you an orientation on your program & you will also get the opportunity to ask us any questions you may have regarding our upcoming adventure. When this is done, you might find time to shop around the city in the evening time if you need any gears for the trek. Overnight at your hotel
Day 3: Kathmandu to Syabru Besi [1500m] – 145 Km – 7 Hrs
From Kathmandu, we take a 9 - hour scenic drive to Syabru Besi, a little trading town for the Langtang area. After driving for 30 km, we approach pristine villages on the banks of the river Trishuli.
We also get to view the enthralling panorama of the Himalaya, including the Annapurnas, Manaslu, Ganesh Himal and peaks of the Langtang region. Overnight at your lodge – B. L. D
Day 4: Syabru Besi to Lama Hotel [2380m] - 5-6 hrs
The first part of the trail crosses through the Bhote Koshi and follows the Langtang Khola. This trail is a gradual ascent up to Bamboo passing through landslide zones. Afterwards, we trek down gently to Rimche (2400m.) through Bamboo (1960m.) which lies at the banka of Langtang Khola. En-route we can see red pandas, playful monkeys and bears if you are lucky. Day 5: Trek to Langtang village [3500m] – 6-7 hrs reckoned
After breakfast, we continue climbing amidst occasional glimpses of Langtang Lirung between the trees. At Ghora Tabela [3000m], the trail emerges from the forest. While walking hereabouts, we get to observe playful white monkeys enjoying themselves and hear the sweet chirping of merry local birds. The trail continues to climb gently and the valley widens, passing a few temporary settlements used by herders who bring their livestock to graze in the high pastures during the summer months. There is a monastery we can visit shortly before arriving at the village of Langtang, the headquarters of the Langtang National Park. The houses of Langtang and its neighboring villages are of the flat-roofed Tibetan style, surrounded by stone walls enclosing fields of buckwheat, potatoes, wheat, turnips and barley. Day 6: Trek Langtang village to Kyangjing Gompa [3870m] – 3-4 hrs
The trail skirts gradually through rich yak pastures and interesting customary villages of Muna to Singdun. We cross a wooden cantilever bridge and reach a wide valley after climbing a moraine. Finally, on ascending the mountain passes, we arrive at Kyangjing Gompa. There is a small monastery and a government-operated cheese factory hereabouts. We can sample some of the fresh cheese down here. Overnight at our lodge – B. L. D
Day 07: A day to acclimatize - 5-6 hours
Today we rest the body and acclimatize and this is necessary to travel safe into the mountains. However, it is also recommended that we keep ourselves busy by hiking around the area. So we make a beeline for Lagsisha Kharka which is a good 5-6 hour long walk. Along the way, we get some great views of the nearby peaks including Dorje Lakpa and Shisha Pangma. In the Kharka, which means pasture in Nepalese, we see a number of semi-permanent stone settlements where herders live in the summer months while tending to their yaks. Day 08: Trek Kyanjin Gompa to Yala Base Camp (4600m) - 5-6 hours
After breakfast, we get set for a shoddy trek along a rocky glacier trail to reach the Yala Base Camp.
From the base camp we get astonishing views of Ganchenpo, Naya Kanga, Tserko Ri, and Yala Peak. When we reach base camp, our climbing guides will hold a basic training on climbing techniques to demonstrate proper ways of using climbing gears. We bunk out at Yala Base Camp for the night – B. L. D
Day 09: Summit Yala Peak (5732m) and return to Yala Peak Base Camp - 8 hours
We make a break at early dawn to start our summit to Yala Peak this morning. From the summit we straightaway get lovely sublime views of the mighty Himalayas including Shishapangma, Dorje Lakpa, Ganchenpo, Naya Kanga, Tserko Ri, Langtang Lirung and other unknown peaks waiting to be climbed. After spending some prime time at the summit getting some lovely pictures of the landscapes, we head back to base camp. Overnight in Yala Base Camp – B. L. D
Day 10: Yala Peak Base Camp to Langtang village - 7-8 hours
We retrace our steps back to Langtang village at a leisurely pace because we are pretty tired. We take this day slow and easy as it gets without any rush – B. L. D
Day 11: Langtang village to Thulo Syabru - 5-6 hours
After breakfast, we set out on a well known route, through woods and along the river valley passing Bamboo Lodge, where we join an uphill trail which will lead us to the Sherpa village of Thulo Syabru for our night halt and a good sleep – B. L. D
Day 12: Thulo Syabru to Gosainkunda - 7-8 hours
Today gives us awesome display of panoramic views of the Himalayas including the Annapurnas, Hiunchuli, Manaslu, Ganesh and Langtang. We follow a ridge for most part of the day and catch a glimpse of the first of the holy lakes. The third lake, Gosaikunda at (4380m), is of particular religious and cultural importance for Nepalese and is one of Nepal’s most venerated pilgrimage sites. The serene Gosaikunda Lake is surrounded by mountains on almost all sides and has a great ensemble of nine other lakes to accompany it. Every year during Janai Purnima in August, hundreds of Hindu pilgrims visit the lake for a holy bath. The large rock at the center of the lake is said to be the remains of a Shiva shrine. We crash out by this tranquil lake for the night – B. L. D
Day 13: Gosainkunda to Tharepati (3600m) - 6-8 hours
As we leave the lovely environment that surrounds the Gosainkund, our trail skirts the shore of the lake before ascending towards the Laurebina Pass (4610m). The Helambu region begins at the Lauribina La Pass and descends to the Melamchi valley. The trail is rough and crosses moraines, but is well marked with rock cairns. We pass through three more small lakes before reaching the pass. We climb a small hill and enjoy excellent views of the area. Our trail passes through Surajkunda, Ghopte and forests before reaching Tharepati where we haul up for the night – B. L. D
Day 14: Tharepati to Timbu - 6-7 hours
Today we check out of Tharepati to Timbu which will be our last walk as we will be driving from the village of Timbu. We descend through lush rhododendron forests and pass several chortens and mani walls before reaching Timbu. The village is well cultivated and has a beautiful picturesque setting. We spend our night at the village of Timbu – B. L. D
Day 15: Drive from Timbu to Kathmandu - 4-5 hours
From Timbu it’s a scenic cruise down to Kathmandu while savouring the changing landscapes that dominate Nepal’s unique geography. After reaching Kathmandu, we check in to our hotel, freshen up and just chill out for some time. At eventide, we celebrate the successful completion of our journey with a farewell dinner at an upscale Nepalese Restaurant and Bar that serves delicious Nepalese cuisine wit a large selection of wonderful dishes to choose from. While enjoying our meal, we are treated to a scintillating cultural dance performed by the local belles. After a great evening, we return to our hotel for a blissful sleep – Breakfast and dinner
Day 16: Departure for that lovely place we call ‘home’ – Farewell Amigos!
Today is free to relax and do your own things; perhaps some last minute shopping or pen a few post cards to the loved ones at home, until your departure or to commence any additional trips or activities you may have booked. If you are departing, you’ll be transferred to the international airport in time for your return flight home. Meeting you has been a wonderful experience that Sansui Treks will cherish for a long, long time; & on your way home, you’ll be thinking of a trip that will linger in your memories for a whole lifetime which we are sure will become fireside stories to be told to your loved ones on a cold winter night for the generations to come. A ‘Camping trek’ is a term used for sleeping in tents. The tents we provide are ‘Two men or couple domes’ or ‘A’ shaped. A foam mattress with insulation underneath is used for sleeping. Clients need to have their own sleeping bag. Bags or cloth packs are used as pillows. It’s a matter of choice, if you want, you bring your own ‘Air pillow’ and freak out anyways, and this is adventure in the wild…the rougher it gets the better.
We have a pool of hotels in Kathmandu under 3 Star categories which we provide to clients in connection with this program, unless it is mentioned otherwise or clients have a choice of their own. You can check on the description of such hotels through our website. Accommodation is never a problem, the choice exclusively yours.
At ‘Incentive Holidays’ – its zero tolerance on cutting of cost when it comes down to feeding our trekking guests, because we know how tough it is on the trails; we ensure that the lodges provide three tasty, bountiful and nutritious meals daily with a variety of local and Western dishes. To start the day, breakfast is ‘king-size’ [the first meal of the day] consisting of a choice of porridge, muesli and cereals followed by omelet, fried or scrambled eggs with chapattis or bread. Lunch is generally a selection of salad, cooked vegetable dishes, pasta and traditional breads.
After a lengthy gritty day on the trail, dinner is a hearty 3 course meal - soup, followed by a variety of vegetables, meat, rice and pasta dishes completed with a simple dessert. Tea, coffee and hot chocolate are also provided at all meals. We use as much fresh produce as possible and special diets are regularly catered for. The local trek leaders are able to maintain very tight controls on health and hygiene in the kitchen with respect to general cleanliness and food preparation and also within the group with respect to personal hygiene. This has allowed us to maintain extremely high standards of health over many years of planning treks - and good health is vital to an enjoyable and successful trek and climb. All foods are well cooked and vegetables are treated by potassium permanganate or iodine. Boiled water is served for drinking. Antiseptic soaps and potassium or iodine treated water are provided for washing. Special dietary requirements can always be catered for. ‘Gluttony is a sin’ but there are no restrictions on the grub we serve to our guests on the mountains; we leave it up to our trekking guests who are the best judge of their own appetites.
